Goodhue police chief, multiple officers resign

The city of Goodhue has called a special meeting after its police chief and multiple officers resigned.

According to a sign posted outside of Goodhue City Hall and published by KTTC, the city will hold a special meeting on Monday. The meeting’s agenda includes addressing the resignation of Police Chief Josh Smith. Multiple officers have also resigned, according to the agenda.

The meeting will also address police pay increases and the “current status” of the department.

In a statement to Bring Me The News Sunday morning, the Goodhue Mayor Terry Anderson Buck said: "What I can share with you at this time is that Police Chief Smith resigned on Wednesday evening at the council meeting. He has accepted a position with the Lake City Police Department. That was confirmed by him via a phone conversation I had with him on Friday.

"We have also received Officer Brecht’s resignation on Friday along with our part-time officers. We have a meeting scheduled for Monday at 7:00 pm. I have been in contact with the Goodhue County Sherriff Department and will be bringing information before the council on Monday evening."

"I want to reassure the residents of Goodhue we will have law enforcement coverage in the interim," Buck concluded.
