Update: South Education Center shooting suspects arrested
Shortly after 6pm on February 1st 2022 the Richfield Police Department, in collaboration
with numerous law enforcement partners, executed simultaneous search warrants at two
Minneapolis, MN addresses. The search warrants were related to the deadly school
shooting that took place earlier in the day at the South Education Center in Richfield, MN.
Officers arrested two suspects and recovered a handgun. Officers are not looking for any
additional suspects, but continue to process evidence related to the shooting.
The Richfield Police Department anticipates hosting a press conference with further
details on Wednesday, February 2, at Richfield City Hall, 6700 Portland Avenue South in
Richfield. MN. Press conference details will be released in the morning.

South Education Center shooting in Richfield
On February 1,2022 at 12:07 p.m., a shooting occurred at the South Education Center,
7450 Penn Avenue South, Richfield, MN. Officers arrived and discovered two students
had been shot on the sidewalk near the front entrance of the school.
Officers quickly determined the suspect fled the scene immediately after the shooting.
Both injured students were transported to the Hennepin County Medical Center via
ambulance. As a precautionary measure, area schools were placed on lock down. Officers
conducted a search of the school and surrounding area and determined no further threat
existed. Lock downs of area schools have since been lifted.
One of the students succumbed to his injuries; the other remains in critical condition.
The incident remains under active investigation and law enforcement is searching for the
