5 officers shot in Benton County

Five members of the Sherburne County Drug Task Force (DTF) were shot this morning and are expected to survive after being confronted by a suspect while executing a search warrant at a Benton County residence.
During the incident officers exchanged gun fire with the suspect. The suspect was arrested late Thursday morning without incident. The suspect was injured in the incident and was transported for treatment. The cause and extent of his injuries are unknown at this time. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has been called in to investigate the incident, which occurred in the area of 190th Avenue Northeast and Glendorado Road NE.
Three Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office members of the DTF were wounded, all with injuries that are considered to be non-life-threatening. A DTF member from Princeton Police Department and a member from Elk River Police Department also were wounded in the incident. The information available at this time indicates that their injuries are non-life-threatening.
Deputies from the Benton County Sheriff’s Office were present at the incident but were not injured.
Additional details regarding this incident will be available at a press conference held at the Benton County Court Facility Jury Assembly Room, 615 Hwy 23, Foley, MN on October 12th at 3:00 p.m.
Note: Drug Task Force consisted of 3 officers from the Sherburne County Sheriff's Office members, an investigator with the Princeton Police Department and the other is an investigator with the Elk River Police Department. Three suffered non-life-threatening gunshot wounds and were taken to North Memorial Health Hospital. Two deputies were shot in their bulletproof vests and taken to the hospital in St. Cloud, but have since been released.
