The victim received an email from Johnspeh467566@gmail.com. The email said her Best Buy product protection plan was about to expire, and she needed to contact them to extend her coverage. She replied back to the email and eventually called several numbers listed in the email. The victim was instructed to use Team Viewer and give remote access to her computer. She followed their directions and approved remote access. She was then instructed to sign into her bank account. She did sign in, at some point saw there was a withdrawal of $40,000 pending from her checking account. She shut her computer off and called her bank, BMO Harris. She was able to get her bank to freeze her account. The $40,000 was not approved.
