A parent called to report that her son is being harassed via social media. Unknown suspect(s) have opened an anonymous Twitter account to harass him. The account is falsely claiming that her son has accounts on several pornographic websites. The suspect(s) have opened accounts on these websites in his name with his email; he has had account verification emails sent to him. This information has now transferred to his school twitter account and a recruiting account. The mother is concerned this may negatively impact his college recruitment efforts and strain relationships with his classmates. I encouraged the mother to contact the School Resource Officer and to also contact Twitter directly; it's possible the account or posts could be removed if they violate Twitter standards. The mother requested this be documented as information only at this point.
