Gold Scam

The victim wanted to report that he almost was the victim of a "Gold Scam". It stated a few weeks ago when he was on his home computer and received a message, he forgets how, from Microsoft. They informed him that his computer was compromised, and he could see they had access to his computer. They informed him that his bank account with Affinity Plus had been compromised. They instructed him to go to his bank and wire transfer the money to APMEX and buy gold coins and have it shipped to his residence. APMEX is a precious metals distributor. They told him this would protect his assets. He went to his bank, and he had $182,000 in his account. He told the bank to wire transfer the funds to AMPEX and he was going to invest in gold coins. The wire transfer was completed, and he was contacted by a representative from APMEX, and they inquired why he was doing this, and he explained the situation. APMEX told him this was a "Gold Scam" and if they shipped the coins to him that his house would potentially be robbed in the near future, after he received the delivery. The funds were then sent back to his bank, and they have started an investigation. He was told he needed to make a police report for this investigation. He is also going to report this to the FBI and Department of Commerce.
